Study Tour for Bangladeshi Farmers Organization Leaders to the Philippines.

IAPP TA organized a Study Tour for Bangladeshi Farmers’ Organization Leaders to the Philippines. The delegation visited PAKISAMA, a national farmers’ organization in the Philippines, in order to learn about their successes and challenges in federating at the national level.

The tour took place from the 1st to the 7th of June 2013. The delegation consisted of 12 farmers’ organization leaders, a representative from the IAPP and the FAO facilitation team. In addition to visiting PAKISAMA, the tour visited the Free Farmers Federation, the Land Bank of the Philippines, Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative, MESAFED, Salika Cooperative, Kuatro Marias Farm and the FAO Philippines office. Throughout the tour participants were actively engaged and reflecting upon how what they were learning fit was relevant to their experience in Bangladesh. At the end of the tour, the participants developed action plans, which outlined what they would do upon return to Bangladesh to further the growth of their organizations. Key action points included sharing the findings of the study tour with other members of their organizations, strengthening the institutional aspects of their organization, including constitution development, business planning, and continuing the development of the network of farmers’ organizations that began with the federated FO workshop in March and continued with this study tour.

Participants rated the usefulness of the tour as 4.9 out of 5.
